Materials Science School was founded in September, 2017. There are more than 40 faculty members and 70% of them have obtained doctoral degree. Teachers with senior titles or above account for 40% of the faculty members. There are winners of national talent programs, such as “National Million Talent Project”,“the State Council Special Allowance Expert”, “Shanghai Leading Talent”、“Shanghai Excellent Technical Leader”, “Shanghai Shuguang Plan Scholar”, “Shanghai Rising-Star Program”. Many teachers have been awarded “Shanghai Yucai Award”, “Shanghai Youth Medal” and “Shanghai Red Flag Bearer” honorary title. Two teachers won the second prize of Shanghai Teaching Method Competition for young teachers.

The school has been approved to construct the fourth category of peak disciplines---“Materials Science and Engineering” in Shanghai, authorized to offer the master degree program of “Materials and Chemistry” and has established several bases of collaboration between industry and school, such as“Shanghai Research Center of Large-scale Casting and Forging Manufacturing Technology”,“Shanghai Collaborative Innovation Center of Large-scale Casting and Forging Manufacturing Technology”，and has over 30 instruments such as Material Processing and Manufacturing Equipment, Scanning Electron Microscope, X-Ray Diffractometer, Thermal Simulation Testing Machine, etc.

The school has formed distinct subject directions and research characteristics in many fields, like large-scale casting and forging manufacturing technology, shaping control technology, material joining technique and interface control technology，etc. Faculties have undertaken over 10 projects of the National Natural Science Foundation of China, more than 80 research programs of Shanghai Natural Science Foundation and the key Enterprise Technology，with cumulative research fund of more than 30 million yuan. Over 30 high-level academic papers have been published in influential journals such as Science, Materials Today Physics. Among all 6 scientific and technological achievement awards, there are two second prizes and one third prize of Shanghai Science and Technology Progress.

The school has 598 undergraduate students and has established four undergraduate majors: “Material Forming and Control Engineering”, “Welding technology and Engineering”, “Materials Science and Engineering”, “Electronic Packaging Technology”. “Material Forming and Control Engineering” is listed as the Prominent Engineers Education program of the Ministry of education, National Engineering Education Certification program, Shanghai First-class Undergraduate Construction Major；“Welding technology and Engineering”, “Materials Science and Engineering” are the Applied Undergraduate Pilot Majors in Shanghai；“Electronic Packaging Technology” is an emerging specialty of the industry-education integration under the background of new engineering. The school has undertaken the new engineering research and practice projects of Ministry of Education, the key Projects of Undergraduate Teaching Reform in Shanghai Universities, Shanghai First-class Curriculum Construction Projects. The school develops students’ communication with foreign universities in the United States, the United Kingdom, Germany and Japan. Every year, the school recommends excellent students to study in foreign universities.

Relying on scientific and technological innovation platforms such as “Internet +”, “College Students’ Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition”, the National Challenge Cup series academic and scientific competitions for college students, “Shanghai College Students’ New Materials and Creative Competition”, the school has been trying to enhance students’ practical ability and innovative consciousness. In recent years, students have won over 70 awards of various scientific and technological competitions. The talent training quality has been significantly improved and the graduates are favored by employee with an average employment rate above 98%. Nearly 20% of the students continue to study for the master’s degree，and the pass rate of postgraduate entrance examination has maintained the first place in the university for many years.
